We're a small family farm located a short drive from Madison, Wisconsin. We offer already-picked and u-pick strawberries during strawberry season (usually mid-June - July 1) and sweet corn, tomatoes and other vegetables in late July and August. Please check our daily picking update for availability and hours today. Or, join our email list to stay up-to-date on what's fresh! What's Happening on the Farm? July 24: Today we will begin selling our first variety of bicolor sweetcorn. Despite the cooler weather early in July, it has ripened and tastes great! July: It's been a cool and dry July, and this has delayed somewhat the first sweet corn of the season. We should be selling sweet corn and some other veggies soon! June 29: Today is cool and somewhat overcast; it was a very busy day at LutzFamilyFarm. The weather was almost perfect for picking berries and a lot of people took advantage of it! We are winding down the season but there are still good berries to be picked. June 26: Though it was hot and humid these past couple of days, lots of berries were picked, especially in the morning. The berries ripen well in the warm weather. June 20: Today was a very busy day at LutzFamilyFarm. The weather was beautiful, though warm in the afternoon, but there were lots of happy pick your own and already-picked customers. June 15: We're beginning u-pick hours today at 8:00 a.m. The last sweet corn planting was completed yesterday. The warm sunny weather yesterday was perfect for planting and for ripening berries! June 13: Our stand is open for already-picked berries, until sold out. Berries look & taste great! June 8: Picked first already-picked berries to fill orders. Many more berries close, again cool weather is ripening slowly. June 4: First handful of strawberries ripened. The cool weather is keeping the berries from ripening too fast. We think we'll have berries to sell by around mid-June. Early June: The cool weather is very friendly to the strawberries and is allowing them to ripen slowly. We think berries will be ripe on the "normal" schedule of about mid-June. Late May: We planted our second sweet corn planting. Since the mid-month frost threat is past, we've been planting tomatoes and other veggies. Mid-May: We had a threat of hard frost which had John up all night monitoring and irrigating to save the tender blossoms that will be strawberries. Many blossoms on the plants, and so far the spring is fairly normal for moisture unlike last year when everything was so wet. We're looking forward to more sunny dry days to help the berries grow. Early May: We have been planting strawberry plants, which will produce strawberries beginning next year. The weather has been favorable for the young plants to get established -- not too hot and not too cool. We planted our first sweet corn planting, a week later than normal due to the cool, wet weather. Early April: We're removing straw from the strawberry plants and raking it into the space between rows. Plants are starting to grow beneath the straw! |
